Lake County Utilities (LCU) is a 24/7 operation that is responsible for generating and distributing centralized utilities (Chilled Water, Compressed Air, Fresh Water, Electricity, Natural Gas, Purified Water, Steam/Condensate, Fire Protection Water, etc.) to the Abbott Park, Abbott Park East, and K-Complex Sites. The facilities on these sites consist of cafeteria, laboratory, manufacturing, office, warehouse, and other spaces.
The primary function of this position is ensuring all necessary control and data systems related to utilities systems are functioning reliably and fully support continuous plant and site operations.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead/Support efforts involving/related to:
Programming, troubleshooting, optimizing, updating of control and data systems, hardware and software related to:
Siemens PCS7 Distributed Control Systems
Various PLCs and remote I/O control systems
OSIsoft PI database
Schneider PowerLogic ION database
Project development and execution (scoping, cost estimating, securing and managing funding, designing, planning, scheduling, material/labor procurement, scope execution, commissioning, training, turnover, closeout, etc.)
Equipment specification development, installations, upgrades, shutdowns, etc.
Define, develop, and execute energy/utilities consumption reduction projects
Capital Planning activities including but not limited to creating/updating equipment Long Range Planning (LRP) documentation
Instrument Calibration Coordinator
Equipment/system validation protocol execution
Direct internal and external personnel to perform engineering analyses, designs, studies, install/modify equipment, etc.
LCU/Abbott equipment/process/system investigations and troubleshooting
Understanding and Complying w/ all Abbott Engineering Standards, Specifications, etc.
Leading cross-functional, cross-site teams to achieve project goals
Preparing and delivering verbal and written communications to management
Execute responsibilities in compliance with all applicable corporate, state, and/or federal environmental, quality, and safety requirements
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead/Support efforts involving/related to:
BEx programs (Root Cause Problem Solving certification, Continuous Improvement activities, etc.)
Personnel development programs (PDPs, Seasonal interns, etc.)
Travel (5 - 10%)
Additional responsibilities as required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelors in an Engineering discipline or equivalent years of relevant experience
10 years of control engineering experience
5 years of experience w/ utility related equipment/processes/systems
Basic understanding of
Industrial control systems including inter-connecting communication strategies
C programming and Visual Basic
Possesses a problem solving, investigative, innovative mindset, as well as a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Exercises technical judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Executes the design of processes/equipment/systems by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline. Investigates, conducts tests or experiments, gathers data, performs preliminary analysis, reports findings, prepares and communicates recommendations and respective action plans.
Consistently leads by example in complex, multi-faceted, business environments as well as represent various levels of LCU/Abbott management when required
Listens to and understands others' points of view. Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences
