UnitedHealth Group Medical Scribe USMD Arlington in Arlington, Texas

USMD part of OptumCare is a multi-specialty group of hospital, clinics and physicians. USMD serves the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area with more than 250 physicians and associate practitioners, and provides healthcare services to patients in more than 20 different specialties at its 2 hospitals, 4 cancer treatment centers and nearly 50 physician clinics, many of which are multi-specialty.

The Scribe works closely with the Physician to accurately document a patient’s encounter.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present to include HPI/Past Medical History/ROS/Medications/Social History/Family History/Allergies

  • Reviews prior medical records to obtain past medical history information and prior labs, ECGs and radiographic studies for comparison

  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician

  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.

  • Document any procedures performed by the physician

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management

  • Effectively cope with typical job stress

  • Document work processes as required

  • Travel to other clinics to scribe for other physicians as needed

  • Knowledge of billing codes to help increase a provider’s charting efficiency

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times according to USMD policy and procedures and HIPPA requirements

  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details

  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications

  • Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information

  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • 6+ months experience as a Medical Scribe or 6+ months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies

  • Numerical ability

  • Ability to type at least 40 words per minute

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing

  • Ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials

  • Ability to comply with attendance requirements

  • Ability to comply with Human Resource policies

  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease

  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AS/BS degree preferred, with experience in lieu of education acceptable

  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively

  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel and to reach with hands and arms

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, see, speak, and hear

  • Occasionally required to kneel, climb, or balance

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and rarely lift more than 25 pounds
