United Technologies is looking for people that are as passionate about technology as they are about changing the way technology is developed and brought to market. Tech@UTC is exploring new ways to bring industry changing technologies to market faster, without sacrificing the robust quality, safety and security standards UTC is known for. We are gathering a team of problem-solvers and change agents to drive speed and agility into technology development at UTC. This team will drive the development and adoption of an accelerated, iterative, lean, approach to technology and product development. This focused team will create a new product development process architecture (based on Agile and lean principles) to enable at least 30% reduction in time –to-market.

You must have a passion for innovation as we seek to extend agile methods used in software product development to aerospace and industrial products. You will lead multiple demonstrations of this new product development process in collaboration with the various UTC business, to deploy enhancements across the enterprise. You will be hands-on in the use of novel tools, and the creation of standard documentation and training materials that can be deployed across United Technologies.

  • Identify and remove roadblocks in functional systems and workflows

  • Explore and establish new benchmarks for accelerating decision-making and simplifying approvals

  • Collaborate with teams from various functions (legal, finance, quality, supply chain) across the organization to examine the product development lifecycle and identify opportunities to move faster

  • Lead Value Stream Mapping sessions and collaborate with other team members to implement recommendations

  • Employ all manners of creative problem solving in order to re-engineer slow and complex processes that are nevertheless crucial for product success

  • Increasing collaboration and innovation by introducing methods and techniques that promote adaptability and flexibility

  • Display leadership as formative member of a fledging community that will drive cultural change in the way we develop our products and technologies

  • Communicate and present your ideas, and partner at multiple levels of the organization to deploy novel solutions

Qualification:

  • Demonstrated experience in an engineering or technology environment with a track record of implementing successful lean and quality improvement projects, particularly in aerospace and/or industrial fields

  • Solid knowledge of lean product development, Agile principles and practices (Scrum and Kanban), and proven ability to transfer this understanding at all levels of the organization. Experience in leading Kaizen events including value stream mapping and in coaching teams in Agile methods and practices, is highly desirable

  • Broad experience with SAFe, CA Agile Central (Rally), Pivotal Tracker, or similar Agile tools and methods

  • Possess a diverse perspective and a differentiated approach to problem solving and thinking about the future of how products and technology can be developed

  • Superlative communication skills, both in-person, and virtually, and an ability to actively facilitate coordination with multiple remote teams

  • An unreasonable combination of optimism, impatience, teamwork, technical expertise, and a burning desire to make a difference

Education:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering, Technical or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Technical or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience
