Labcorp Lab Services Team Leader - Molecular Infectious Disease - 1st shift in Burlington, North Carolina

In this position, you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment, and will be a part of our overall mission at Labcorp: "Improving Health, Improving Lives" as we combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

All of the tests performed in the Molecular Infectious Disease department utilize PCR based technology -- providing extremely sensitive and timely results to providers. The testing performed surrounds 3 main viruses -- HIV, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B. Our staff also currently help to support labcorp's SARS-CoV-2 testing efforts.

The shift for this schedule is 1st shift (Tuesday-Saturday 7am-3:30pm)

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the department

  • Send daily, weekly and monthly productions reports to management

  • Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees

  • Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment


  • BS/BA in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or similar related clinical science disciplin. For majors that are not Biology or Chemistry, the requirements are: 16 credits of Biology, 16 credits of Chemistry, and 3 credits of math

  • Experience Requirements:

  • 6 yrs Technologist exp (7 yrs if they started as a Tech Trainee) with a Bachelors

  • 4 yrs Technologist exp (5 yrs if they started as a Tech Trainee) with a Masters

  • 2 yrs Technologist exp with a PhD

  • ASCP and/or AMT Certifications are a plus

  • Prior leadership experience is a plus

  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures

  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office

  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills

  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment

  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
