Production/Improvement Engineer (Job Number: 211636W-01)


DuPont has a unique opportunity within the Dalton XPS Plant (producer of STYROFOAM Brand Insulation Board) for a Production/Improvement Engineer to gain broad experience within a small site environment.

This job includes two primary roles: Improvement Engineer in the Improve Asset Utilization work process and Production Engineer in the Manage Production work process, for the Dalton extruded polystyrene (XPS) facility. Under the general direction of the Production Leader, the Production / Improvement Engineer is the technical resource for all aspects of plant operation and improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintains anunderstanding of all applicable process technology, equipment and controltechnology. Is very knowledgeable of mechanical and electricalequipment as well as process cooling and extrusion. The process doesnot include a chemical reaction.

  • Works with and coachesself-directed shift teams to troubleshoot and optimize plant operations inorder to meet goals related to asset capability, costs, conversion, anddensity.

  • Collects and analyzesplant performance data to identify and implement improvements.

  • Utilizes and works withthe Technology Center to develop Most Effective Technology (MET)

  • Utilizes and developsOperating Discipline.

  • Leads and participatesin Root Cause Investigations of production, process safety, or qualityissues.

  • Represents the plant inall technical matters, including communications with the Technology Centerand/or expertise centers.

  • Maintains compliancewith process safety requirements such as Loss Prevention Principles, LOPA,and Mechanical Integrity requirements.

  • Utilizes Operate Plantand TICA work processes. Uses the Global Project Methodology to implementprojects.

  • With the ProductionLeader and Global Improvement Leader, develops and maintains the PlantSpecific Technology Plan

  • Implements Businesssupported projects as identified in the Plant Specific Technology Plan,serving in any required GPM roles.

  • Represents the Burleyplant on larger, business-wide projects (formulation changes, METchanges).

  • Validates improvementopportunities, including economics.

  • Acts as focal point forengineering documents (P&IDs, etc.) for the site.

  • Functions as theReliability Engineer for the site.

Critical Success Factors / Competencies:

  • Facilitative leadership,interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively within the highlymotivated and self-directed site team as well as off-site functionsincluding the Tech center, R&D, maintenance, process automation, etc.

  • Broad range of technicalskills, including engineering, process control, process safety,troubleshooting.

  • High initiative, senseof urgency, and bias for action.

  • Knowledge of Dow’sglobal work processes.

  • Ability to leverageknowledge into and out of the plant to achieve overall businessobjectives.

  • Good organization skillsand discipline.


Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelorof Science degree in an Engineering discipline is required

  • A minimum requirementfor this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the UnitedStates. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position,including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Sciencedegree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering is preferred

  • Six Sigma certification

  • Previous experience withreliability engineering, process automation (PLC and/or MOD V), projectexecution, quality coordination, and/or process safety
