Pfizer Portfolio Manager, Digital Enablement in Durham, North Carolina


In partnership with the Biotherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences (BTxPS) digital strategy leadership, the BTxPS Digital Enablement Portfolio Manager role will provide overarching BTxPS digital program management. This role will oversee the status of multiple projects in different digital technology areas including laboratory and manufacturing efforts, foundational data management, advanced analytics and data science. This requires a solid understanding and knowledge of project management principles and concepts and the demonstrated ability to independently interpret and present project information to varied audiences. The Portfolio Manager will be accountable to anticipate and troubleshoot program roadblocks and influence highly matrixed project teams to achieve project targets. The Portfolio Manager will support our programs by facilitating the status review of the projects, budget, and schedules as well as developing processes and tools for monitoring project progress and for delivering real time program dashboards. This position will collaborate across BTxPS, with Pfizer Digital, and with external partners to deliver comprehensive Digital program management.


  • Provide overarching BTxPS digital program management overseeing multiple projects with different technologies including laboratory and manufacturing efforts, foundational data management, advanced analytics, and data science.

  • Develop and manage plans to achieve digital objectives and lead or co-lead digital projects and programs across BTxPS.

  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and management of BTxPS program management tools including developing mechanisms for monitoring all project progress, ensuring risk and issue intervention, and enabling problem solving.

  • Oversee the development of the project plan with cross functional teams to deliver the program on time, within schedule, and within budget.

  • Facilitate forecasting and planning cycles for short- and long-term digital program needs (FTE and financial)in cooperation with BTxPS Digital leadership and project leads

  • Provide project information necessary to support digital strategy decision making and prioritization.

  • Contribute to development and execution of project strategies within and across multi-line teams and work with subject matter experts within the organization in evaluating different strategies to help direct the team to a successful outcome or deliverable.

  • Support development and delivery of the communication plan to ensure effective and timely communication.

  • Deliver digital program status, updates, and highlight reports and establish real time program dashboards.

  • Promote a continuous improvement culture to streamline appropriate processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.


  • Bachelor's degree in Biological, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering, Technology Management, or relevant disciplines with 5+ years' experience

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of project management principles and concepts

  • Experience managing IT projects or programs in the life science industry.

  • Experience as an information technology professional with increasing responsibility designing, delivering, and maintaining digital systems

  • Excellent skills in planning, analysis, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation, and the ability to readily learn a new business area

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and business understanding skills.

  • Capable of working with in a high matrixed environment with complex multitasking and ability to prioritize.

  • Detail oriented, meticulous, thoroughly documents progress

  • Extensive experience working with software enabling complex business operations

  • High level of awareness of internal and external technology trends


  • 5+ year managing projects of increasing complexity and scope.

  • PMP Certified

  • Capable of managing cross functional cross site matrixed project teams

  • Sound understanding of technical aspects of pharmaceutical product development with a range of modalities.

  • Proficiency and proven successful delivery of solutions using Agile development, especially scaled agile and lean techniques and methodologies (Disciplined Agile, SAFe, etc.)


  • Occasional work outside business hours to accommodate other Pfizer sites,partnersand manufacturing schedules.

  • Up to 20%travel to Pharm Sci BTx (Andover, MA; St Louis, MO; Durham,NC; Cambridge, UK)
