As an Accounting Manager, you are responsible to independently perform accounting functions which require preparation, analysis, and communication of issues of normal to high complexity that support Caterpillar business processes as well as lead and leverage a small team of management staff accountants.
Incumbent will provide technical expertise and perform complex accounting work that supports business processes related to cost and decision support. Additionally, this position will:
Have a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting practices, systems and procedures
Resolve issues independently
Participate on and lead teams addressing complex problems
Motivates team members to work towards individual and team goals and objectives and fosters an environment of teamwork and cooperation
Communicates effectively within the team and with internal and external customers and data providers
Understands and manages customer requirements and expectations
Serves as liaison between customer, team and data providers
Identifies and communicates goals and objectives of team
Performing Complex Staff Work
Incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions and will accomplish a high level of complex and/or technical analysis, analyze various outputs, advise others (both accountants and non-accountants), resolve issues and communicate these outcomes. In some cases, will participate in strategy development. Works on challenging, medium to high risk issues and makes decisions and recommendations as appropriate.
Possible areas of responsibility are varied, including supporting and working with team on:
Determining Net Present Value (NPV) & Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for high complexity projects
NPI Regional profitability reporting & analysis
NPI support including future cost, should cost, alternative analyses and strategy
NPI OPACC determination & analysis
Enterprise coordination and/or governance of costing activities
Product group and/or operational strategy development & execution
Low cost producer analysis
Post implementation audit (PIA) completion
Identify and implements process and efficiency improvements
4-year degree, preferably in accounting. Non-accounting degree requires minimum of 18 hours of college level accounting or approved Accounting certification.
5-7 years of accounting experience

Proven record of process and accomplishments at lower levels
Initiative, leadership, good judgment and superior communication skills
Strong analytical, problem solving and human relations skills
Cost and Investment Analysis experience
Possible travel up to 10%.
