** *POSITION SUMMARY: * The Scheduler is responsible for producing an efficient, attainable daily Surgical Schedule in collaboration with the OR management. Collaborates with the OR Analyst and IS department in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the OR Scheduling module. In collaboration with OR Analyst produces monthly reports pertaining to scheduling. Monitors and assures monthly scheduling goals are met. Flags problems related to scheduling. Participates with management and marketing teams in visiting surgeons’ offices to effectively increase physician satisfaction, business growth and hospitals visibility throughout the Medical Community. Supervises other schedulers. The scheduling lead compiles and submits reports to the OR Director regarding room utilization, equipment and staff utilization and other managerial reports as directed. The Scheduling lead maintains a collegial, friendly and collaborative attitude to display excellent customer service when scheduling procedures.

POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Pre and Intraoperative interventions, including but not limited to: vascular, neuro, thoracic, GI,GU,GYN, orthopedic, skeletal/muscular conditions and diseases etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Demonstrates ability to effectively navigate and utilize the OR Scheduling Module in a timely manner. * Demonstrates proficiency in correctly entering patient information, received via phone call or faxes from physicians and/or physician’s offices, into the OR Scheduling Module. Confirms appointments with offices. Follows National Patient Safety Standards by asking all appropriate questions regarding the patient and special needs to successfully perform the procedure. * Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with ancillary departments and/or contract services about any special needs requested for scheduled procedures, such as Outpatient Surgical Services, Materials, Radiology, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Cell Saving, Perfusion, Neurological monitoring, etc. * Maintains the Scheduling Notification Log Book accurate and up to date. Log contains any special device, personnel, equipment, instrumentation or supply requested by the surgeon and clarified by the scheduling coordinator. * Communicates promptly, to the Director of Surgery, any challenges in meeting the surgeon scheduling needs. * Obtains Anesthesiologist assignments and enters them in the OR Module on a daily basis. * Updates and verifies the OR Schedule and completes the Scheduling board on a daily basis. * Communicates diligently with OR Director to address any scheduling challenges. * Demonstrates excellent telephone etiquette, answers phone promptly and only relays on phone voice mail as a back-up * Utilizes professional customer service skills, remembering that she/he represents the Las Palmas Surgery Department when scheduling patients for procedures. * In collaboration with OR Analyst complies and submits reports to management as directed. * Assists with orientation of new employees as requested by management. * Coordinates duties and responsibilities of other schedulers * Assists with marketing and physician office visits to promote business and improve physician’s office relationships. * Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS * None

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: * High School diploma or equivalent. * Two years secretarial experience. * Comprehensive knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. * Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: * Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or Business College. * Training in Secretarial Sciences or related business field. * BCLS
