The Sikorsky Aircraft Design Department (in the Rotary and Mission Systems business area of Lockheed Martin) is looking for a talented and energetic Senior Manager to lead Airframe & Mechanical Systems Design Engineering. This team of nearly 200 engineers encompasses airframe design, composite design, mechanical systems (including landing gear, mechanisms, and mission equipment such as rescue hoists, gun mounts and cargo winches), aircraft interiors and completions. It supports legacy products from the venerable H-3/S-61 to the iconic H-60 BLACK HAWK; commercial S-76 and S-92; the massive brand new CH-53K King Stallion; high speed X-2 technology family S-97 RAIDER and S-100 DEFIANT. This is an exciting time, with Sikorsky re-entering the market as an OEM airframe designer, noting that the production all composite RAIDER X will be designed and fabricated in house.
The Senior Manager is responsible for all technical aspects related to the Airframe and Mechanical Systems domain spanning design development, manufacturing, testing, production and in-service support. The foundation for this is the correct balance between first principles and state-of-the-art analysis in the pursuit of design elegance. In conjunction with innovation and design excellence the Senior Manager must be committed to continuous improvement and enterprise excellence, with actionable tracking metrics. The Senior Manager is expected to update and execute a five-year technology vision roadmap. This includes developing and implementing digital tools and processes in support of the Lockheed Martin digital transformation initiative. A further key focus area is to actively participate in and expand common skill Communities of Practice across Lockheed Martin business areas.
The Senior Manager will staff respective Air Vehicle integrated product teams for competitive proposals and once awarded will oversee execution the statement of work on time, on budget, with no technical escapes and appropriate use of system engineering tools, risk management and earned value management. The Senior Manager also leads a core services team that supports the larger Aircraft Design department in terms of common engineering processes (e.g. design center sourcing, design quality, metrics) and business administration tasks. Beyond the technical leadership and oversight, the Senior Manager is responsible for career development and personal growth of the engineers on the team. This requires sensitivity to Global Diversity and Inclusion in all its dimensions.
This position is based in either Fort Worth TX, or Stratford, CT, with occasional (less than 20%) travel.

A BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent degree) with 20 years industry experience, or an MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent degree) with 18 years industry experience.
Membership in at least one professional society is expected.
Experience leading a large functional team is preferred. Experience leading a technical team on a major development contract is also preferred. Experience with earned value management and system engineering processes to ensure projects are completed on time and within established budget is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with Executives, flight test team, manufacturing team and customers is required. A commitment to developing and growing the teams’ technical presence in Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin and externally is expected.
