Sales & Use Tax Manager

Job Summary:

Manages all sales and use tax compliance and systems responsibilities for TJX domestic divisions and Puerto Rico which includes adherence with State, County and Local Sales and Use Tax regulations and licensing requirements for Brick and Mortar and Digital sales. Ensures all filing deadlines are met. Manages the new POS software as it relates to Sales Tax at Point of Sale. Interacts with Business to ensure Purchase Orders and any secured goods purchased or services received are taxed appropriately. Works closely with Corporate Tax on tax laws, rules, and regulations. Works closely with Expenses Payable on self-assessment of tax through Oracle EBS. Manages sales and use tax State audits, working directly with state auditors and negotiating assessments and penalties where applicable. Researches tax law changes and reacts to when needed.

Makes decisions regarding staffing, raising potential State Audit exposures, and review of tax regulations to make recommendations on legal requirements as they relate to sales and use tax as well as making recommendations for accruals related to potential audit exposure.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Manages the team to ensure department responsibilities are met timely and with accuracy, including but not limited to the timely filing of state, county and local sales and use tax returns in accordance with government tax laws for all TJX domestic divisions and Puerto Rico

  • Manages the issuance of business licenses, and managing State Audits ensuring any exposure is limited and resolve timely.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate reconciliation of GL Liability.

  • Evaluates current work processes and implements systemic and/or procedural changes to enhance efficiencies.

  • Reviews policies, procedures, and tax laws to ensure compliance with State and Local taxing regulations and laws in approximately 15K taxing jurisdictions.

  • IT projects as assigned.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Tax, Accounting, or Finance

  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Understanding of sales and use tax.

  • Strong management and organizational skills.

  • Preferably 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in finance.

  • Oracle and Vertex O Series tax knowledge is a plus
