Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principle Software Engineer join our E-2D team of qualified, diverse individuals. Position will be located in Melbourne, Florida however is paired with an extensive amount of travel 50% - 75% of the time.

Exciting & Unique Opportunities

Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, and architecting complex solutions supporting the building and test plan execution, performing quality reviews, and triaging and fixing operational issues. Become the subject matter expert for various subsystems of the aircraft and contribute to the overall design of the software.

Essential Functions:

It is critical that you understand the software development life cycle and have an in-depth knowledge of automated testing to facilitate and analyze large data sets. Participate in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

  • Work with various team members to integrate functionality with other software components

  • Ability to lead a team and /or provide leadership to drive solutions of complex problems

  • Support software working groups with the customer

  • Develop software products from all phases of the software lifecycle

  • Take ownership of hard problems and drive to a solution, while working in a team environment and provide leadership for its implementation.

  • Apply technical expertise in solving complex integrations problems.

  • Interact with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers.


  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time

  • At minimum an active DoD Secret level security clearance is required to apply and to start on Day 1, with the ability to obtain and maintain special program access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 5-years of software engineering experience OR a Master's Degree in (STEM) with 3-years of software engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in (STEM.)

  • Demonstrated experience with C/C++ and/or other OOP languages

  • Demonstrated leadership/project management/training experience

  • Experience working in a Windows and/or Linus environment

  • At minimum an active DoD Secret level security clearance is required to apply and to start on Day 1, with the ability to obtain and maintain special program access within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a team

  • Excellent customer interaction skills

  • Experience with Windows, Linux and/or VxWorks development

  • Familiarity with the Agile software development process
