Dow Chemical Reliability Engineer in Midland, Michigan
The Dow Chemical Companyhas an exciting opening for aReliability EngineerinMidland, MI. The Reliability Engineer will utilize reliability and predictive tools and technology to help prevent unexpected equipment outages. The Reliability Engineer will lead and/or participate in root cause failure investigations for the mechanical and electrical equipment. This individual will also facilitate development of the business / facility maintenance strategy, and solve reliability and availability losses through application of reliability technology and tools to enable the plant to meet its business plan and strategy and therefore the customer’s need. This result is achieved by focusing on those opportunities that over a long-term period or historically has impacted the plant’s measured asset capability and the opportunities identified as "high-risk" in risk assessments, reliability models, etc.
The successful candidate will be part of a diverse team including crafts and plant personnel focused on improving the reliability of the plants assets.
Reliability Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Achieve AC and AMR business objectives.
Participates in the Facilitation and implementation of the Global Root Cause Investigation (RCI) process to include application of the cause and effect methodology in all areas where reliability opportunities are identified and where the RCI triggers are met.
Develops and maintains a model that identifies the unit operations, equipment, process, etc. that identifies the value of opportunities for improvement. (This long term cost of ownership evaluation can be as simple as an ExcelTM spreadsheet such as the TICA Evaluation model, RCM or as complicated as a detailed SPAR model)
Evaluates and quantifies the impact projects such as equipment reconfigurations, design changes, equipment quality, etc will have on ability to meet customer needs
Evaluates effectiveness of individual aspects of the PPM program by showing quantitatively the impact of failures and PPM.
Asset utilization and cost data is analyzed to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities.
Focuses on reliability issues and not fire fighting issues.
Evaluates/validates the impact of corrective actions that impact availability/ reliability and leverages solutions across a business or site if appropriate
Provides reliability input to GPM activities.
Participates in Front End Loading (FEL) and Value Improving Practice (VIP) activities as appropriate; Process Simplification, Value Engineering, Maintenance Strategy, Reliability Modeling, etc.
Uses reliability engineering principles and tools (Weibull, RCI, FMEA) to increase AC and AMR.
Participates in plant health study and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
Applies long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles in conjunction with the discipline teams and technical resource networks to design reliability into our purchasing requirements. Provide equipment reliability and performance data to the technical resource networks for evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance, and modifications to Most Effective Technology (MET) level 1.
Uses long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles to optimize spare parts stockage levels in conjunction with the MRO function, Discipline Activity Specialists.
Develop and implement operating discipline that will improve reliability.
Participates in reliability network activities.
Utilizes six sigma tools and methodologies to improve reliability.
Assists the PPM coordinator in setting up the PPM program
Utilize the Condition Based Electrical (CBE) PPM tool to optimize electrical equipment maintenance frequencies and prevent unexpected equipment failures. Assist PPM coordinator in setting up the PPM program.
Develop and implement operating discipline that will improve reliability.
Interface with and participate on teams with manufacturing personnel, maintenance personnel, other engineering design disciplines, vendors, contractors, and suppliers as needed.

A Bachelors of Science degree with a discipline in Engineering is required.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial or chemical environment is required.
Occasional off-hour and weekend support is required for planned outages and unplanned events.
Staff on-call responsibility is a requirement of this role
Minimal travel outside Michigan Operations may be required.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills are required.
Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
Able to work within an empowered team environment.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
5 years of experience in an Engineering or Reliability role.
Previous experience using SAP.
