J&J Family of Companies Data Scientist Analytics and Innovation in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are recruiting a Data Scientist who is passionate about crafting, developing, and implementing data architecture and engineering solutions that have a direct impact on J&J Deliver NA and End-to-End (E2E) business. Our function spans across the entire enterprise. This wide scope will enable the individual to work with various internal business units and external entities to help identify viable and data architecture opportunities and then conceive, develop, and implement data-focused data analytical solutions.

As part of our multifaceted Analytics Center of Excellence (COE), you'll be an individual contributor that takes ownership of tough business problems and builds creative solutions that support our E2E Supply Chain Deliver Organization. You'll push beyond current tools to deliver capabilities and solutions at the forefront of what is possible in the cloud building prototypes and scalable solutions.

The role will be instrumental in providing highly reliable, high-quality data & analytics solutions for our organization. You will define problems, identify data sources, then create the definition, design, and implementation of data science solutions. You will partner with regional data and analytics leads within both the Information Technology (IT) and Supply Chain organization to ensure delivery of North America (NA) Deliver analytics capabilities. You will help define and align with the data & analytics architecture across IT data & analytics groups in different sectors to improve opportunities as well as drive agile architecture to meet specific NA Deliver needs. We seek a creative problem solver who collaborates with business partners to bring forth new insights, challenge the status quo, and deliver innovation to enable our business through the effective use of technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create data science solutions that address measurable business problems within NA Deliver

  • Partner with IT teams to transition proof of concept IT work into a production-maintained environment

  • Deploy systematic solutions, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, machine learning, and other advanced analytics solutions

  • Ensure best practices are implemented in the areas of data science and machine learning

  • Conduct workshops and training sessions with other team members to introduce key data science concepts to change organizational behavior

  • Partner with Data Scientists and multi-functional teams to understand current processes; develop, pilot, and implement improvements incorporating results of data science use cases and POCs to deliver advanced analytics solutions

  • Work with cross-functional technology, analytics, and business team to convert use cases and POCs into technology-enabled minimally viable products (MVPs) and ultimately into scalable full-stack solutions, using Agile methodologies

Qualifications

Required

  • Undergrad in STEM or related field, e.g. statistics, operations research, computer science, mathematics required (Master’s preferred)

  • 2 years of meaningful work experience in data analysis or related field (Data analyst or Scientist)

  • 1 year in a role that creates a tangible business impact through analytics and data science

  • Solid understanding of data mining algorithms including machine learning techniques such as feature engineering, decision trees, clustering, regression, neural networks, Bayesian models

  • Proficiency in one or more statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or Scala

  • Experience with data modeling, design patterns, building highly scalable and secured analytical solutions

  • Experience in applying real-time, modern machine learning analytics, artificial intelligence, and/or natural language processing-based methods throughout operational workflows

  • Proficiency in SQL and solid understanding of creation and extraction of data from relational databases

  • Ability to rapidly understand business requirements, communicate expectations to cross-functional development teams, document data findings that can be easily understood

    Preferred

  • Previous experience building scalable cloud solutions (i.e. Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • Demonstrated familiarity with large data sets and understanding of data analysis workflows, as well as working across complex systems involving multiple data sets

  • Expertise in building scalable analytical solutions that can be automated

  • Proficiency in building complex machine learning solutions using neural networks and deep learning technologies

  • Demonstrated experience in creating business applications of MPP databases (i.e. AWS Redshift, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Google BigQuery)

  • Experience building solutions for file-based data architectures (i.e. Hadoop, DataBricks)

  • Previous experience with ETL and data migration technologies

  • Experience with testing suites and CI/CD integration for creating robust pipelines

  • Proficiency in deployment and monitoring of data science solutions into a production environment

  • Working knowledge of scalable data science and machine learning software (i.e. Spark and Databricks)

  • Experience with sharing results through data visualization tools and technologies (i.e. Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, etc.)
