The Account Manager is responsible for supporting ongoing relationships with our customers and serves as the primary point of contact for overall service delivery. One of three job functions that make up the Account Management Team, the Account Managers are responsible for ensuring the overall happiness of our customers. You will advocate internally by supporting process improvement initiatives thru collaboration with operational partners, serving as the liaison between internal functions and key persons within the customers’ organization. You will also be responsible for helping build processes and continuous improvement efforts to ensure that there is a healthy balance between efficiency and delivering processes that support the needs of our customers.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees typically work during our normal business hours (8am - 5pm). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work outside of these hours when on travel or in meetings with international clients. This position is open to remote workers nationwide. Our offices are located in: Hartford, CT and Minnetonka, MN. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assigned to certain customers and maintains their own book of business that may consist of National Accounts (NA) and Key Accounts (KA) business segment cases to deliver contract SPD expertise and consultative services on all matters relating to the Summary Plan Description (SPD)

  • Responsible for working closely with the account representatives on the case – NA becomes actual member of the Account Management Team (AMT) and has direct client face out responsibility – Delivering Contract SPD Expertise and SPD Consultative Services

  • For NA cases responsible for direct client face out responsibility in form of telephonic, written and or live interaction (when deemed appropriate)

  • Responsible for the creation, and completion of SPD’s that include both medical and ancillary products and the full UHC product line (excludes Medicare & Retiree (M&R) and UMR business) within agreed upon delivery dates

  • Responsible for delivering and executing Material Modification Update (MMU) and Summary Material Modification (SMM) process for book of business that generally occurs 2x’s a year within agreed upon delivery dates

  • Reviews, interprets, and extrapolates benefit information and language from client source of truth documentation (main sources for KA and NA BTB) to input into Single Contract Issuance System (SCI) to produce draft and final SPD’s for assigned accounts and plans

  • Maintains close working relationship with wide range of account management and operational staff up to and including Strategic Account Executive (SAE)/Implementation Manager (IM)/Implementation Project Manager (IPM)/Client Manager (CM)

  • Ability to handle large vol. of cases and to be able to source/prioritize multiple SPDs/projects at one time; and meet or exceed unit metrics and quality goals for production of SPD

  • Keep abreast of the latest legal/SPD/product and Healthcare Reform (HCR) updates and impacts and apply to existing book of business and SPD’s

  • Responsible for producing high quality product that is delivered to assigned customers – subject to Quality Assurance (QA) program review and metrics

  • Reviews customer produced SPDs by comparing source of truth documentation with customer language. Sends customer produced SPD to reviewers on the account management team to review certain aspects of the SPD.

  • Sends resource balances for COCs to the fully insured Contract team

  • Leads or participates in process improvement projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) OR 3+ years of experience in a related area of study

  • Advanced level experience utilizing Microsoft Word (complex formatting, editing and saving documents)

  • 3+ years of experience with employee benefits or contract/legal

  • 3+ years of experience handling a high-volume book of business on tight timelines

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance.

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)

  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer facing experience

  • Experience working in healthcare/benefit/Contract SPD/legal – including areas such as client management, claims, on-boarding, eligibility, and operations

  • Experience utilizing Internal Benefit Set Up and Document Issuance Systems, Benefit Template Builder (BTB) Single Contract Issuance (SCI), or RSuite experience

  • Prior Account Management Team experience

  • Complex account management experience

  • Key Accounts and National Accounts business experience

Soft Skill:

  • Strong attention to detail

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 - $116,000. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $71,400 - $127,400.
