American Express Director - Global Insurance Compliance in New York, New York
Description
American Express is engaged in the distribution, underwriting and servicing of a variety of insurance-related products globally. Global Insurance Compliance provides strategic support to drive continuous product innovation for the business while building an effective framework for compliance with applicable laws and regulations for insurance products. This position will play a critical role within the Line of Business Compliance (LOBCO) team supporting enterprise-wide insurance initiatives.
The successful candidate will lead a team of LOBCOs in managing an effective compliance program for insurance initiatives within Global Consumer Services Group (GCSG) and Amex Assurance Company (AAC). The role will encompass overseeing No Additional Charge (NAC) and Fee Product protection benefits across the enterprise, including providing advice and guidance to business partners to support the continued and compliant operation of insurance-related activities across jurisdictions and business units.
This is a highly visible and strategic position with significant and regular interaction with senior leaders across the company.
Responsibilities
Provide solution-oriented insurance compliance support for NAC and Fee Product benefits to assist business colleagues in reaching their goals while meeting compliance requirements
Partner with international stakeholders to support the “Best in Class” Standards and Controls Program (BIC) along with overseeing the consistent application of standards and controls for all insurance-related activities
Support initiatives through New Product Approval (NPA) enterprise-wide processes to develop a robust and effective control environment
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and internal stakeholders (e.g. other Global Risk and Compliance colleagues, General Counsel’s Organization, Operational Excellence, Independent Compliance Testing, Privacy, Internal Audit Group)
Manage an effective Compliance program, including overseeing the applicable Annual Compliance Plan (ACP), Compliance Risk Assessment (CRA), Business Unit Compliance Assessments (BUCA) and issue management processes
Assist internal stakeholders with regulatory requests and drafting regulatory responses
Drive implementation of policy and regulatory requirements related to relevant insurance regulations
Lead, coach and develop a global team of LOBCOs
Qualifications
Prior U.S. insurance expertise required, with an understanding of the insurance benefit landscape and relevant regulatory considerations
Ability to exercise sound judgment in the development and selection of compliant solutions
Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and support multiple priorities simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt easily to frequent change
Strong leadership, analytical, organizational and managerial skills; ability to lead and inspire others through continuous coaching, feedback, recognition and encouragement
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to persuade and influence
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
