American Express Senior Dev Ops Engineer - Site Reliability Engineering in Phoenix, Arizona

Description

Global Merchant Services Technology is continuing to expand the CI/CD automated development / testing / deployment model in its Global Merchant Accelerated Settlement application. Many of the CI/CD components have been installed and are running, but the team is seeking an energetic, creative and strategic individual with a proven track record of implementing large scale CI/CD models to join and propel the team to extraordinary delivery deployments! Once in production, the candidate will work with the Production Support team to implement monitoring tools and dashboards to ensure 100% application availability while refining system functionality to meet the business needs.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Work in an agile, rapid development and prototyping environment. Design and Developing test automation in Java/J2EE technologies Collaborate with Engineers to define and align code quality parameters and DevOps goals

  • Leverage Org/Enterprise frameworks, services, and technologies

  • Introduces new engineering technologies and solutions and mentor and guide team members

  • Develop clean maintainable automated tests programmatically and leverage continuous integration and tools to monitor application and infrastructure health checks

  • Work with engineers to drive improvements in code quality via automated testing

  • Implement dashboards and alerting for application monitoring and ensuring application health

  • Provide leadership in production support situations to restore service and deliver business capabilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • 5 years of progressive experience demonstrating strong engineering and professional leadership skills.

  • 3 years of Java experience

  • Extensive experience with multiple aspects of DevOps with ability to customize the pipeline based on product needs

  • Extensive experience in participating and leading production support triage meetings to restore service

  • Demonstrated experience working with CICD tools (e.g., GitHub, GitHub Actions, Maven/Gradle, Sonar, Jenkins, XLR, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience with shell scripts and Unix environment

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, partner, and collaborate cross functionally across many engineering teams

  • Knowledge of Observability concepts (e.g., Tracing, Metrics, Monitoring, Logging) and tools (e.g., Jaeger, Kibana, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, ELK etc). is a PLUS

  • Knowledge with NoSQL Databases like Cassandra is a PLUS

  • Knowledge and/or experience with containerized environments, Kubernetes, docker is a PLUS

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively express ideas, engage in complex discussions and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues

  • Superior analytical, problem solving and planning skills with the desire to continually learn and improve

  • Superior troubleshooting skills

  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
