Purpose of Job
We are seeking a talented Tax Analyst I for our Plano, San Antonio or Charlotte facility.
Supports specific aspects of USAA's corporate tax liability to include preparation and maintenance of tax records, , returns, and other related materials. Possesses knowledge of tax laws and regulations for their tax specialty which may include but not limited to local, State Premium Taxes. Researches and advises business leaders on potential impacts from new and changing tax laws and regulations and provide tax options to reduce tax burden. Participates in the development of tax strategies within the department and/or the business and defines data requirements for business systems related to tax. May assist in tax audit responsibilities by researching potential gaps and supporting tax management in responding to the audit request.

Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
Follows written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities.
Applies advanced knowledge of a tax specialty in the preparation, maintenance and analysis of complex tax records to include but not limited to tax returns, and periodic reconciliations of taxes to general ledger liability accounts.
Computes current and cumulative tax adjustments and completes required forms and schedules.
Calculates forecasted and actual current tax amounts in accordance with GAAP and STAT accounting rules and prepares tax footnote disclosures; advises business partners of results, impact on performance measures, and variances.
Provides guidance and may review work product deliverables for less experienced team members.
Participates in special projects and analyzes tax returns to recommend tax planning ideas to tax leadership.
Researches, analyzes, interprets, and applies state premium tax laws, and regulations, and court or other regulatory agencies' rulings or decisions to meet compliance requirements and makes recommendations to management.
Seeks resolution of tax audit issues by recommending solutions to tax management and coordinating with tax peers.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar business concentration required OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
4 years of tax accounting, tax analysis, or tax compliance related experience and accountability for delivery of tasks and/or projects in similar field required.
Advanced business acumen in the areas of financial services business operations, finance operations, tax and accounting industry practices and emerging trends required.
4 years experience applying tax code for tax preparation in accordance with compliance, regulatory and risk management guidelines in area of tax specialty.
2 years experience researching tax issues and providing tax strategies to business leaders to reduce tax burden.
Experience researching and interpreting tax laws and regulations related to work product.

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $72,900 - $131,400*( this does not include geographic differential it may be applied based on your work location)
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.
Shift premium: will be addressed on an individual-basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
