JOB SUMMARY:

IDEX Health & Science is seeking a talented and experienced Engineer to join its product development team in Rohnert Park, California. IDEX designs, develops, and manufactures OEM fluidic systems and precision components. By creating innovative solutions for our customers’ increasingly complex instrumentation needs, IDEX directly contributes to the science and healthcare industries that improve our quality of life. The position’s primary responsibility is the development and optimization of fluidic product solutions for OEM instrumentation needs in the Biotech and In Vitro Diagnostics markets. This role works to understand customer application challenges, extract and define product requirements, develop concepts, and create specifications for products that address customers’ needs. The Product Development Engineer utilizes mechanical engineering knowledge, problem solving skills and project management to drive projects through the product development process from concept, to design, and through production scale-up.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Analyzes designs for appropriate tolerances and design for manufacture

-Applies engineering theories, tools and research techniques to solve technical challenges

-Attends relevant trade shows and assists in the preparation of product demonstrations and substantiation of marketing claims

-Communicates clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teamsorally, in written form, and via presentations

-Develops expertise on relevant IDEX Health and Science technologies and products

-Executes design creation, concept prototypes, cost analysis, and performance verification

-Investigates and remains current on new technology to generate new product ideas

-Leads the technical efforts for new product development projects

-Manages project work using established processes and project management tools

-Remains flexible to support other functions as needed

-Supports investigation, analysis and problem solving of complex quality items

-Collaborates closely with manufacturing to ensure assembly and test documentation is clear, accurate and complete

-Works with product managers, sales, and customers to define new product requirements

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree

-Able to interface with external customers and outside suppliers

-Aptitude with business software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and a proven ability to quickly learn and use new software tools

-Capablewithmathematical and computational analysis to solve engineering problems, includinguseof modeling tools such as FEA, CFD, etc.

-Considerate experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

-Demonstrated ability to lead small teams, complete tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines, along with written and oral communication skills

-Expertise with Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques preferred

-Highly proficient in using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed models and drawings

-Self-starter with the ability to work independently while supporting a culture of accountability, team orientation and a focus on successful outcomes

-Knowledge with electro-mechanical devices and test equipment (fluid control devices such as valves, pumps, sensors is preferred)

-Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

-Ability to lift up to 10 pounds, move within an office complex and outside in the field

-Able to travel (<10%) as required (domestic & international) and is comfortable going to locations where customs and cultures are unfamiliar

-Aptitude to operate various types of test equipment and tools, perform experiments, build prototypes and complete work at a desk

-Communicate via phone, computerandin-person situations, within the general office area, in the engineering laboratory, and on the manufacturing floor

-Operates under limited supervision from Engineering Manager, communicates to remote sites, and interfaces within Engineering and all other departments

-Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and visual acuity for reading a computer screen and handwritten/typewritten documents, and experiment observation

This position requires lawful access to ITAR controlled information, meaning all IDEX Health & Science employees to be considered for this role will need to maintain US citizenship or permanent residency status in the US.
