Merck Sr. Scientist - Discovery Process Chemistry in South San Francisco, California
We are currently seeking exceptional synthetic organic chemists to join the Discovery Process Chemistry (DPC) group at our South San Francisco, CA site.
The core responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to drive the development of innovative solutions to complex chemistry problems across a diverse portfolio of discovery projects from lead identification through candidate selection. These solutions are applied to accelerate and expand medicinal chemistry research by overcoming synthetic bottlenecks, streamlining Statistical Analysis Report (SAR) analog synthesis, and providing access to novel chemical space. The successful candidate will further support the translation to practical processes to supply Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (APIs) for candidate compounds as they transition into development. Close collaboration with chemistry colleagues and a broad array of discovery and preclinical research groups will be expected. As such, the candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. A Ph.D. in chemistry with experience in synthetic methodology, catalysis, total synthesis, physical organic chemistry, or flow chemistry is required.
Education Minimum Requirement:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field or will be graduating with PhD in 2020 or 2021.
Required Experience and Skills:
PhD with 0-3 years experience in Process or Medicinal Chemistry or will be graduating with PhD in 2020-2021.
Must have conducted outstanding research in her/his field of expertise that may be shared during the interview process.
Must function well within multidisciplinary teams and possess outstanding communication skills.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Additional experience within an academic laboratory (post-doctoral fellowship) or the pharmaceutical/biotech industry is a plus.
A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and research presentations is a plus.
