Description:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the 1 st Assistant Superintendent is responsible for directing and managing the maintenance of Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater Golf Course to produce the highest quality playing conditions in the most efficient and economic manner. He/she will develop maintenance programs using modern equipment, techniques and fertilizers to maintain the highest quality, standards and image as established by the corporation. The 1 st Asst. Superintendent will assist in maintaining the AAA Four Diamond standards.

ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervisesthe performance, attendance, attitudes, appearance and conduct of golfmaintenance staff

  • Maintainsa professional image for self and crew in keeping with the high standards of afirst class resort

  • Maintainsa strong morale and spirit throughout golf maintenance team

  • Responsiblefor reinforcement of department and company standards through training

  • Completesall proper new hire and termination paperwork

  • Recommendsdiscipline and/or termination when appropriate

  • Workswith HR to recruit and hire staff

  • Managestimely completion of performance reviews

  • Pay all invoices in a timely and accuratemanner

  • Monitor time punches in Timesaver,ensuring accurate payroll

  • Communicate with members and guests in aprofessional manner

  • Assists with thedevelopment, training and inspiration of golf maintenance team

  • Utilizes labormanagement tools to schedule and control labor costs

  • Responsible forthe achievement of department goals and objectives

  • Reviewsguest/member course and pace of play feedback through Unifocus/ Member Surveyand communicates information to team to ensure continual guest/membersatisfaction

  • Acts withresponsibility towards all company property, supplies and equipment.

  • Responsible foroverall condition of the golf courses to the standards established by thedepartment and the corporation

  • Responsiblefor overall condition of the Putting Course to the standards established by thedepartment and the corporation

  • Assistsin the preparation of operating and capital budgets and operate courses withinthose guidelines

  • Establishesand maintains appropriate record keeping for fertilizer and pesticides, gas andequipment parts inventories

  • Utilizeslabor management tools to schedule and control labor costs

  • Implementsand monitors Hazardous Communication Program and all other associate trainingprograms, with safety the highest of priorities

  • Maintainssafe and pleasant work environment

  • Developsand supervises all golf course special projects

  • Toursand assesses golf course conditions daily

  • Conductsweekly problem solving/planning sessions

  • Responsiblefor equipment purchase, storage, inventory and maintenance

  • Responsiblefor landscaping; planting, cultivating,pruning, care of plants, shrubs and trees on golf course

  • Responsiblefor records: expense, weather, materialapplications and inventories

  • Monitorsoutside contractors for special golf course projects

  • Complieswith all Sunriver Resort’s policies, procedures and safety regulations

  • Maintainsa strong knowledge of emergency procedures

  • Instillsa calm, organized approach in all stressful situations

  • Attendsappropriate resort, division and department meetings

  • Conductsstaff meetings as needed

  • Maintainsa strong knowledge of golf maintenance trends

  • Assistswith the coaching and counseling of golf maintenance team

  • Providesgeneral resort information for guests

  • Offerswarm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests of Sunriver Resort includinguse of guest name when possible & good eye contact with each guest

  • Interactswith resort staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments whennecessary

  • Alwaysmaintains a professional demeanor and attitude

  • Communicatesall pertinent information to the golf maintenance team

  • Maintainsa professional appearance. Follows all Sunriver Resort dress code standards

  • Remainsalert, courteous and helpful to the guests and colleagues at all times

  • Performsother duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Highschool education or equivalent required

  • Degreein Turf Management desirable (enrollment required) and/or combination ofexperience and training required

  • Minimumof three (3) years in a similar managerial position required

  • Memberof Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (GCSAA).
