Job Description:

The position shall be a part of the Law Security and Public Policy Division (LSPP) and will be based out of Singapore. The position reports to Assistant General Counsel, Asia Pacific and EAME and will work closely with the LSPP team based in Singapore and globally in handling and management of all legal functions for the Financial Products Division (FPD) of Caterpillar in the ASEAN Region. The incumbent serves as liaison between the LSPP and FPD by providing daily counselling requiring accurate interpretation of the law and corporate secretarial compliance requirements as it applies to the FPD’s ASEAN business.

Familiarity with new or changing laws and regulations that impact FPD and inform FPD management of regulatory and compliance requirements. Keeps updated on new developments by continuous review of a variety of legal literature. Will lead the legal support for several strategic initiatives of FPD in the ASEAN region. The incumbent will also engage with FPD personnel in various departments in assigned areas of responsibility and applies statutes, legal precedents, administrative regulations, corporate policies and procedures and Legal Services Division’s internal operating procedures. Impacts key quality goals including customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, cost savings, process quality, etc.

The incumbent will work closely with the compliance team with regard to creation and implementation of various compliance initiatives, including but not limited to compliance to Anti Money Laundering laws and Data Privacy in the region.

The incumbent will also support FPD with some of its large and complex asset financing structures in the Asia Pacific region.

The incumbent will be involved in the portfolio management of the FPD ASEAN business and in this regard will be involved in litigation proceedings to the extent of selecting and engaging the services of outside counsel, representing the company by providing factual information to outside counsel and serving as liaison between other company personnel involved and outside counsel. Monitors quality of services provided by outside counsel and assures timely disposition of legal action.

The incumbent is a senior generalist who is assigned the more complex problems and operates with a minimum of supervision.

The position is likely to more frequently contribute to the interpretation or development of new policies and legal practice guidelines. The incumbent establishes and then monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met and desired results are achieved.

The incumbent may have supervisory responsibility for a small group of legal and support staff...

The position will be working independently much of the time, with only periodic support of other attorneys and leadership.

Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.



Minimum requirements of the position include all of the following:

a) a degree in law from Singapore or one of the common wealth jurisdictions and should be admitted to the bar in Singapore; b) 8 or more years of progressively responsible job-related experience in a bank or financial institution is required d) the applicant should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; e) should be a team player with a keen intent to learn.
