Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped 800 bed camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.
Reporting to the Manager - Mining Ops & Asset Management, the Mine Engineering Services Superintendent is responsible for leading the Mine Engineering Services team to provide Short Term Mining Engineering and Survey services that enable mine development and production, including Mine Services, Projects & Backfill.
The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY.
Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Leading the team responsible for safely delivering mining engineering and survey services, to enable execution of the Departmental Business Plan.
Integrating plans from departments including Mining Operations and Asset Management, Technical Services, Health, Safety and Security, Human Resources, Sustainability and External Relations, and Sustaining Projects into short term mine plans and schedules for execution by the operations teams.
Coordinating the preparation and production of short term mine plans, including Quarterly, Monthly and Weekly Schedules, and all Mining Engineering designs and plans to enable execution of these schedules.
Ensuring the provision of survey control, and the integration of survey activity into the mining schedules.
Acting as the primary liaison with the Technical Services Department to ensure an effective conduit for addressing Geotechnical, Backfill, Infrastructure and Long Term Planning issues.
Ensuring compliance to operational budget.
10+ years’ experience in underground operations.
Degree + 10 years’ relevant experience (with at least 5 years’ in a senior Mining Engineering role.)
Proven ability to manage a team.
WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency or equivalent desirable.
Large and / or deep operational experience desirable.
