  • Summary:*

This position is primarily responsible to assure compliance to global food regulatory standards for the 30+ countries we market and distribute products to, outside of the USA, main focus being our core markets, and key markets. The position would assure that the teams on the ground are adhering to Hershey’s standards; as well as, those mandated by local regulations and requirements through a variety of methods including; but, not limited to auditing and monitoring, and regulatory approval processes.

The Senior Manager would ensure that we had the right capabilities, organization structure, and technically trained teams across the various countries to provide business supportability and drive innovation in a growth trajectory. The Manager will also identify, implement processes and structure to pave the way for innovation and growth by setting standards and priorities, identifying and solving for potential people/process gaps. The Manager would work collaboratively with the Centers of Excellence to drive continuous improvement in those internal processes.

The Manager will proactively drive planning to address immediate regulatory threats, compliance needs for changing regulations, and build longer term plans to address emerging regulatory measures in the food regulatory space. The Manager must have a strategic lens in driving beyond the day to day and help to build a robust plan for today, and for tomorrow.

This position will work with many other functional areas internally such as other QRC Directors, Marketing, Supply Chain, Product Development, Law Dept, Global Manufacturing teams, and the regional leadership teams across the world. The position also has key responsibilities to assure adequate and clear communications (both written and verbal) with regional leadership teams, and other cross functional departments as required, and externally, with various regulatory government bodies, and representatives of trade associations that represent Hershey’s interests.

In addition to the above activities: The position requires a minimum of 25% travel, with possible weekend travel, overnight stays and global travel required. Must be flexible to participate in trips that arise with short notice

  • Major Duties/Responsibilities:*

  • Lead teams to assure regulatory compliance with all products directly marketed and indirectly via distributor/e-commerce channels for all countries outside of the USA. Provide support and guidance to teams to resolve regulatory incidents, and institute measures to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure seamless communication and alignment across functional departments.

  • Continuously assess risks, and plan for compliance across short/longer term regulatory measures through cross functional engagement with stakeholders in devising clear plan.

  • Continuously assess our internal regulatory processes, and devise strategies for improvement in the short/longer term that coincide with the business strategies.

  • Develop, retain and attract talent. Devise a strategy to strengthen the organization and provide sustainable, consistent regulatory programs that provide business supportability and continuously build inner bench strength.

  • Provide leadership externally with technical committees (i.e. trade associations) and regulatory bodies in shaping legislation that directly impact Hershey’s, and ensuring our points of view are appropriately represented, and for resolving regulatory actions.

  • Representative within QRC Leadership team. Active participation in driving strategic direction for wider QRC, and taking leadership in driving initiatives, supporting on department meetings etc.

  • Advanced proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, SAP (Recipe Management),

  • Broad understanding of global food regulatory requirements with expertise in Europe and Asia countries a plus: China, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, HK

  • Proficiency in English and additional language fluency preferred

  • Ability to travel throughout the region. Passport and Visas needed or ability to obtain same.

  • Effectively build strong relationships, uses sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with customers (internal and external), and technical experts/representatives of governing bodies

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:*

Education: Masters level preferred in a technical field such as Nutrition/ Food Regulatory / Biology/ Microbiology, Food Science, Engineering

Experience: Minimum 12-15 years of food regulatory experience in the confectionery/snacking food industry preferred
