Merck Manager, Operations - 3rd shift in Wilson, North Carolina

The Wilson facility, located at the intersection of I-95 and US 264 Alternate, is a 500,000 square foot solid dosage / packaging site on 225 acres. The facility has been in operation since 1983, and was recently selected as our Company Packaging Center of Excellence for North America.

POSITION OVERVIEW – Basic Functions & Responsibility
The Operations Coach provides leadership, cross-functional development, tactical direction and technical expertise to operational and clerical personnel in various stages of team development in the packaging of Wilson products. Responsible for teams and all operational activities affecting the business. Maximizes the potential of all team members and fosters an environment that allows for progressive continuous improvement of skills.
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT/PEOPLE MANGAGEMENT
Assists the team with development of objectives and ensures alignment with sitegoals;
Providestimely feedback and evaluates/addresses performance ofdirectreports;
Assesses employee training/development needsand implement actions to address thoseneeds;
Supports employee development initiatives in alignment with the businessneeds;
Troubleshoots equipment problems, identifiesneedfor new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment toreducedowntime;
Initiates/engages in problem solving and identify short-term andlong-termactions to prevent problemreoccurrence.
Adheres to the applicable escalation process for safety, quality and downtimeevents;
Approves IQ/OQ/PQ/CCand otherdocuments;
Partners with MPS, Process Improvement Engineers andOperators to identify and implementcontinuous improvementinitiatives;
Evaluates and serves as the point-of-contactfor all new equipment and/or modifications to existingprocesses orequipment;
Manages adherence to MPSprinciples,defined line performance standardsandkey performance indicatorsutilizingapplicable Lean/ Six sigmatools.
Attends departmental and team meetings focused on equipment/processimprovement;
Serves as liaison between shifts, teams, IPTs, andCOEs;
Participates and/or Leads Tier Meetings
UsesRoot Cause Analysis tools to identify true root cause for quality and safetyevents.
Authors, reviews, approvesand/orparticipates inqualityinvestigations.
Initiates, reviews and approves safetyinvestigations;
Participates in internal and external audits andinspections;
Identifies quality-related trends and facilitates implementation of corrective actions
Creates/Revises Standard Operating Procedures, Forms and other batch-related documents
Adheresto and monitors operating budget and staffing plan per Profit Plan.
Recognizes and investigates opportunities for financialsavings;
Models of our Company Leadership Principals and Inclusive Behaviors
Acts as part Site Extended Leadership Team
Education Minimum Requirement
High School Diploma
Preferred B.S. degree from an accredited college/university, preferable with emphasis in a science or engineering related discipline
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum of 5years experienceproduction/manufacturing, preferable in a cGMP environment
Willingness and availability to work off-shifts and/or weekends
Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, andproblem-solvingskills. Strong team skills, including ability to coach/develop work teams, provide training, motivate/empower others, and resolve conflict. Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities. Must be goal oriented and able to manage risks. Good verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of Operational Excellence tools and methodology.
Experience working with SAP inventory
Previous experience with vaccines or glass products
2 years coaching/supervisory experience
